Unlocking delivery of social housing and genuinely affordable housing – Funding and Finance II

Yesterday’s homelessness prevention strategy reiterated the Government’s commitment to ending homelessness, pointing to investment in social housing and ensuring social housing allocations can help prevent homelessness.

However, with the numbers of households and children in temporary accommodation at record breaking levels and costs, it’s arguable this strategy is not bold enough.

Where availability of social housing does not meet demand, we will see increases in homelessness if the private rental market is inaccessible to households with lower incomes.

As Local Housing Allowance remains frozen, there is an ever greater need for collaborative discussions looking to unlock innovative solutions to financing both social housing and ensuring access to genuinely affordable housing.

In November, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity brought together delegates from policy, finance and housing to dive into these issues.

  • Systemic Barriers

  • Financing, Capital and Investment Issues

  • Opportunities for Innovation and Good Practice
